Beth Emery, Ph.D., CFLE
Professor

Dr. Emery received her B.S. in Home Economics Education from the University of Maine-Farmington and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Family Studies from Oregon State University. She was promoted to professor in 1999 and teaches courses on the contemporary family, interpersonal skills, and relationship violence and supervises field experiences and internships in the family and child area.
Dr. Emery received the departmental Outstanding Teacher Award in 1997. Her research interests and publications focus on physical and sexual aggression and conflict in dating relationships as well as feminist methodology. She has co-authored a book entitled "The Dark Side of Courtship: Physical and Sexual Aggression" as well as articles on intimate partner violence and family studies research. She has held the position of the Human Development and Family Studies Associate Editor for the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences Research as well as serving on the editorial boards of several journals in the field. Dr. Emery has also served on several committees and executive boards of national organizations.
