Kim E. O'Kelley, Ph.D.

Dr. O’Kelley is an assistant professor in Early Childhood Education. She has a Ph.D. from Tennessee Technological University in Exceptional Learning with a concentration in Young Children and Families. Her B.S. degree is in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University and her M.A. degree is in Educational Leadership and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. She also completed an Ed.S degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. Prior to coming to MTSU, Dr. O’Kelley was an adjunct instructor for Tennessee Technological University and Chattanooga State Community College. She has served as a research associate for a state wide evaluation project and was a student teacher supervisor. She also taught 6th and 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies at Lakeview Middle School in Catoosa County, GA. She is a certified teacher (Pre-K-8) and administrator (K-12) in Tennessee and Georgia. Dr. O’Kelley is a member of the National Association for the Education for Young Children, the Division for Early Childhood Education, the Council for Exceptional Children, and Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. O’Kelley’s research interests focus on the experiences of young children with special needs and their families who receive early intervention services and supports. Other research interests include the impact of poverty on young children’s early literacy development and later literacy development and the impact of quality developmentally appropriate child care. |
