Linda Hall Richey, Ph.D., CFLE
Associate Professor

Dr. Richey is an associate professor in Early Childhood Education at Middle Tennessee State University. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville in Human Ecology, Child and Family Studies. Her B.S. degree is in Home Economics Education from UT-Chattanooga and her M.Ed. degree is in Special Education focusing on young children from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is certified to teach in Tennessee.

Since 1984 Dr. Richey has been at university instructor in child development and family studies, in curriculum and instruction, and in remedial and developmental studies. Dr. Richey has been a public school teacher, Girl Scout volunteer, and a high school band parent. In addition, she has owned, directed, and taught in her own child care center.

Developmentally appropriate and best practices for young children -- both typically developing and with special needs -- have been an ongoing interest and focus of Dr. Richey's professional work. She has also been involved in programs that provide professional development and technical assistance to child care personnel and quality assessment of programs serving children and families. In addition to NAEYC, SECA, and TAEYC, she is a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the National Council on Family Relations, Kappa Omicron Nu and Phi Delta Kappa. Dr. Richey is a certified family life educator (CFLE).

Dr. Richey's professional interests relate to the social and emotional development of children, specifically parenting and positive child guidance. Other interests include family-school-community partnerships, the inclusion of children with special needs in their natural environments, and developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.

Dr. Richey and her husband continue to enjoy the journey of sharing their lives with three adult children.
